I caught up recently with Tony Sheehan, Associate Dean, Digital Learning at London Business School to explore how social learning is relevant to the workplace. Tony’s work in learning and knowledge management has been recognised with a wide range of wards including the Learning Technology of the Year Award (2014), The Online Information Award, andawards for Innovation in Knowledge Management.

I was inspired this week when I caught up with Martin Baker. Martin is the founder and CEO of the Charity Learning Consortium, the Corporate eLearning Consortium, and the not for profit organisation GivebackUK. Martin is passionate about the power of collaboration, and he is also determined to give something back to the learning community. He is also a powerful advocate for the charity and not-for-profit sector.
Last week Marcus Buckingham dropped a well timed bombshell into the world of HR data with his article that “Most HR Data is Bad Data”. Marcus focused on performance reviews and argued that a significant body of evidence over 15 years demonstrates that “each of us is a disturbingly unreliable rater of other people’s performance.” He goes on to say that the rating actually says more about the rater than the person being rated.
Rolling out an LMS can be a daunting task. I liken it to opening a shop. You will need stock,
shelves, labels, signage, advertising, marketing, regular customer polls and feedback capture.
One of the great things about Totara is the ability to make a user friendly course catalogue.
Do you like taking lots of calls? You may be sociable and it’s nice to talk, but you can make your life, and your users’s lives a lot easier by setting up an FAQ.
